Classical Crossover Charity Concert featuring Gill Henry and Manuel Lazaro
Magnum productions in association with Studio in Gata are promoting a series of charity concerts this year for the benefit of the Alzheimer Association Familiares Teulada - Moraira and Masonic charities. The first concert in February featured the tremendously popular “Liverpool Band” who provided the best tribute to the fab 4 that can be seen in Spain and were justly rewarded with standing ovations throughout their fabulous show.
The second of these concerts is scheduled for Friday the 18th March in Espai la Senieta, Moraira and showcases the wonderful combination of two of the most talented operatic singers on the Costa Blanca. Gill Henry will be performing her unique style of modern popular songs from the greatest Diva’s in the world and will be followed by Manuel Lázaro singing some magnificent opera numbers with his enthralling baritone. The second part of the show features duets with Gill and Manuel providing a perfect blend of Gill’s soprano and Manuel’s baritone. Gill and Manuel thrilled the audience with their performance at the “Glyndebourne in Gata” event last year and this will truly be a “Classical Crossover” not to be missed. Tickets are only 12.50€ and there will be a bar and prize draw so please book early not to miss this one

Calpe Gilbert & Sullivan Society present Ruddigore Rehearsals are well on the way now for the Calpe Gilbert & Sullivan Society’s forthcoming production of ‘Ruddigore in concert’ which will take place on Wednesday 13th April in the Casa de Cultura, Alfaz del Pi and Thursday 21st April in
the Salon Blau, Casa de Cultura, Calpe. The society is now in their eighth year of shows, and Ruddigore will be the seventh operetta performed by them, out of the thirteen written by Gilbert & Sullivan. Although this is one of the lesser known operettas, it is still full of good tunes and the usual convoluted Gilbertian storyline. As with last year’s production of Gondoliers, we are presenting a concert version of Ruddigore. The cast will be in costume and the performance will include all the songs together with a reduced dialogue. For those who are not G & S aficionados, the story is set in the little Cornish fishing village of Rederring, and contains one of Gilbert’s more varied and interesting cast lists, including a love triangle, a sailor, a mad woman, a family of ‘bad baronets’ and various ghosts. As with all G&S operettas it is guaranteed to supply a good night of entertainment. As ever the members will be accompanied by live music, in the form of pianist Kirsty Glen, to add that extra dimension to the performance. Tickets are now available at 10€ and can be ordered by phoning 96 648 0300, 696 514 613 or from Margaret & Elena’s Card and Bookshop in the Gabriel Miro, Calpe.
