So far in this series of articles about modern hearing aids we firstly explained how hearing damage usually occurs, and then described some of the advances in hearing aids that have happened over the past decade.


This month we will explore the 9 different types of hearing aids, and the most important features of each: pristine


1. Made for iPhone – connects directly to your iPhone, iPad or iPod. Versions: Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) or Behind-the-Ear (BTE). Features: Streams phone calls, music and more, directly from your iPhone, iPad or iPod to your hearing aid - Delivers sound and

3. Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) – small, discreet and quick to fit. Perfect for many first time wearers. Versions: Standard or Micro. Features: Discreet design - Variety of colour options - No hard-to-use buttons or dials - For mild to severe hearing loss.

5. Behind-the-Ear (BTE) – the world’s most common hearing aid style. Versions: Standard or Power. Features: Discreet design - Variety of colour options - For moderate to severe hearing loss - No hard-to-use buttons or dials.


6. In-The-Canal (ITC) – custom hearing aid that fits in the ear canal. Smaller portion of hearing aid shows in the outer ear.


Features: For mild to mildly severe hearing loss - Variety of technology level choices that previously required a larger aid - Custom-made for you - Variety


of colour options.


7. In-The-Ear (ITE) – custom hearing aid that fits in the outer portion of the ear. Features: Easy to adjust - For mild to severe hearing loss - Custom-made for you - Variety of colour options.


8. Tinnitus – designed to


deliver relief from ringing in the ears. Features: Variety of colour options - No hard-to-use buttons or dials - First-ever touch control panel.


9. Hearing Amplifiers – good start for those not ready for hearing aids. Features: Completely invisible in most ears - Designed especially for first-time users - Easy to remove for better ear health.


As you can see there are lots of models and lots of features.
