“…The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from vio- lence…When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid; The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me; In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.”
– II Samuel 22:2-7
LAST YEAR, WME WAS GIVEN AN EXTRAORDINARY OPPORTUNITY TO HELP OR- PHANS AND REFUGEES FLEEING THE VIOLENCE OF WAR RAGING IN EASTERN UKRAINE. Reports claim 1.9 million have fled the war zone and that in- cludes roughly 166,000 children. There is nowhere safe for them to go.
After returning from a mission trip to Ukraine, WME’s ministry partner in the Balkans, Rev. Ghiorghi Cazacu, made an urgent call to our office. He choked back tears as he relayed things he had witnessed and the horrendous stories he had heard. He told us of the desperation of the people fleeing from the war zone and meeting Christian families as well as others who had been abused by Russian soldiers. He related a story of one Christian wife who was raped by soldiers in front of her hus- band and children, then the soldiers took the family’s food leaving them with nothing but the clothes on their backs. He also saw or- phaned children living on the streets who were so hungry they
