5 WAYS TO BUILD CONFIDENCE AND A BETTER BODY IMAGE

editor: Andrea Allen

It is just as import- ant to build a loving relationship with yourself as it is with others. The simple fact is perception is reality. If you tell yourself you are unattractive or over weight or a bad dresser or a loser, you will start to see yourself that way. Here are 5 easy steps to work towards to- day to start improv- ing your confidence and increase your happiness!

1. SHIFT YOUR FOCUS

Instead of focusing on what your body looks like, focus on what it can do. It can walk, run, jump and more. When you start to think, “I hate my thighs,” replace those words with “My thighs allow me walk around skillfully every day.”

2. CHANGE HOW YOU TALK.

When you are with your friends, do you sit around and complain about yourselves? You will never feel happy with yourself if you are talking badly about yourself to others. Plus, when you say mean things about yourself you open up the doors for others to as well. Cut all negative comments about yourself to your friends and acquaintances. You will see a change in the way they treat you as well.

3. STOP COMPARING.

The average person tends to compare their weakness with another’s strength. We see highlights of other people’s lives on social media and we think that’s the norm. This is an extremely unfair comparison and can create in- security. We should never compare ourselves to models, movie stars, or even friends. Compari- sons will make you feel sad, inadequate, and like you don’t measure up. Find ways to improve yourself on the inside and the out, and then measure the progress against yourself.

4. BE YOURSELF.

Wear your own style, and be true to your per- sonality. You will be more comfortable if you know your friends are friends with you because they like you and NOT because they like who you pretend to be. Find characteristics you have that make you unique and embrace them!

5. SAY GOODBYE TO NEGATIVE THOUGHTS.

This is the biggest offender to positive body image and confidence! You cannot bash your- self all day in your brain and think you will feel good about yourself. Once you recognize negative self-talk, make an effort to replace any negative thought with 5 positive ones instant-- And we mean INSTANTLY!
