LIVING REAL BEAUTY IS...

RAISING YOUR AG QUOTIENT

by Heather G. Christensen

If you want in on one of the best beauty se- crets of all time, take a moment—right now, to do this for yourself—it won’t take long.

Ask yourself: “On a scale from 1 to 10, how

happy do I feel (1 not happy, 10 very happy)?” Jot it down. Now ask yourself “Why is the number where it

is? Why am I at a 4 or a 7, or even a 9 or 1?” Write down what the reason might be. Now write down 10 things you are grateful

for. For each thing that you are grateful for, close your eyes, and visualize why you are grateful for that thing. What were the events that led to the gratitude? Were there people involved? Who were they?

After you have finished making your list, rate

your happiness level again. Did your happiness level change? If it did, why do you think it did? If it did not, why do you think it didn’t?

THE AG QUOTIENT That little test was equivalent to your AG Quo-

tient: The Attitude of Gratitude Quotient. What does an attitude of gratitude have to do with beauty? Psychologists have shown that there is an actual psychological and chemical change in a per- son when they write down what they are grateful for on a daily basis. In 2011 Ocean Robbins wrote an article titled The Neuroscience of Why Grati- tude Makes us Healthier. In it he writes about the results of studies on gratitude. Psychologists found that people who keep a daily gratitude journal were more caring and happy, offered help, and had hope for the future. Their relationships were also more connected and satisfying. Hmmm. People had hope, and they slept better.

They were more happy. Is a genuine smile more beautiful? Can you tell when the person across from you is putting on a false smile or one that shows he/she genuinely cares? Do you like being around a person who is happy and cares about you, or someone who is grumpy and stressed? Think about it for a minute: we are all made up of matter, and everything around us is made up of matter. That matter carries or holds energy, and that energy is always moving. Remember from science class: positive attracts positive, nega- tive attracts negative. There is dark, or negative energy--and light, or positive energy. Our thoughts determine how our energy moves. Our thoughts, in many ways, determine the amount of power we have in our lives and the energy we attract. Have you ever noticed how good you feel when you see a beautiful picture that really strikes you? Have
