living LIVING joyful by Vanessa Joy I sing all over the world and I love it.

I love traveling, seeing new places and meeting new people. I especially enjoy using the power of music to deliver a positive message. A lot of the time it is difficult to communicate because of language barriers and customs. I don’t speak anything besides English so after I introduce myself, how can I begin to start a friendship? Over the years, I have discovered a

fashion trick that I now use everywhere. It’s my favorite thing to wear, and I don’t leave home without it. It breaks the ice better than any handshake could ever do, it’s much more effective than any busi- ness card, and it costs nothing. Have your guessed it yet? You’re right--it’s a smile. I know it sounds so simple, and it

really is quite easy to do. A smile pays off in big ways. It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to achieve an instant bond with someone I’ve just met by sharing a smile with them. It creates openness and ease, and it helps not only me to relax but the people around me too. A smile gives encouragement without saying a word. Imagine - you can lift someone up and help them along the way instantaneously with your grin. Just like singing, a smile can lighten up anyone’s day. Try it! The next time you’re tempted to rush

through life, pause, and force a smile. It really can make a big difference in your life. There are also health benefits. It’s scientifically proven that even a fake smile will give you endorphins! I’ll talk about the health benefits of smiling in the next issue. Until then - start smiling today, and find JOY in your journey.
