steps back up to the mike and says “As I was sayin,” and starts the verse over again. Too cool for school. A relaxed pro at work The concert footage is offset by interview
clips with everyone from Mitch Mitchell and Billy Cox of The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Paul McCartney, Leslie West, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, Bob Merlis, Glen Phillips, Col. Bruce Hampton, Rich Robinson, Kirk Ham- mett, Alex Cooley to name a few- along with segments from Dick Cavett’s interview with Hendrix, and additional interview segments with not only Hendrix, but with his road crew, management and concert promoters. Electric Church brings one of Seattle’s
biggest rock starts into the deep south for a documentary that is engaging, enlightening and just plain rocking.
The Charlie Daniels Band, Live at Billy Bob’s Texas (Smith Music Group) is one fine concert film. The band is tight and the music is just right. From his Urban Cow- boy honky tonk days,
to the largest honky tonk in the Lone Star State, Billy Bob’s Texas, Charlie Daniels brings his 50 year career full circle. Recorded on February 20, 2015, the 14-track set kicks off with “Southern Boy,” a rocking tune that originally featured country star Travis Tritt sharing vocals with Charlie. Guitarist Bruce Brown sings Tritt’s part, and if you close your eyes, you couldn’t tell it’s not Travis. Charlie’s characteristic Southern attitude and Wild West influences shine through on country rock favorites like “Drinkin’ My Baby Good- bye,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Long Haired Country Boy,” and “(What This World Needs Is) A Few More Rednecks.” Southern rockers will love the live versions of “The South’s Gonna Do it Again,” and “In America.” A man of faith, Charlie proudly and openly speaks of
his faith in God, country and family, and his rendition of “How Great Thou Art” is the finest since Elvis. The band play a couple of songs from their first ever acoustic album, Off the Grid: Doing it Dylan, including “Tangled Up in Blue” and “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight.” And, yes, the devil went down to Fort Worth that night with Charlie sawing his fiery fiddle on “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” which was featured in the 1980 American western drama featuring John Travolta, Urban Cow- boy. Also on the DVD is an exclusive behind-
the-scenes interview with Daniels. In 2015 The Charlie Daniels Band celebrates a deco- rated career of multiple GRAMMY, CMA, ACM and GMA Awards, and has exceeded 20 million in sales led by his six multi-platinum albums. Live At Billy Bob’s Texas is also available
