bunked, which, for a music writer like me, is very cool - after all these years later get the true story as opposed to the hype. Dennis tells the whole story from the in-

side, with such obvious love for all the guys, and even more for his wife Cindy, whom he met during the band’s earliest days. Cindy, who is the sister of drummer Neal Smith, was an integral part of the band in those days, de- signing the outrageous stage outfits and help- ing in various aspects of band growth, including being a sort of “den mother.” There are insights into Frank Zappa, pro-

ducer Bob Ezrin, manager Shep Gordon - so many characters that make up the history of the original “shock rock” band. Dunaway tells one story that I always wondered about, and that is how Vince Furnier became Alice Cooper when Alice Cooper was actually the name of the whole band. And by the way, we also get the true story on “the chicken inci- dent.” If you are an old fan of Alice Cooper, you

must own this book. If you just love to read a great music biography, this book is for you as well. It’s an easy read and a welcome addition to my own rock and roll writing library.
