ROAD TRIP BACK TO TAMPA
FOR THE CHARLIE DANIELS GOLF & COUNTRY CONCERT
by Michael Buffalo Smith Well, this year’s Angelus event was as fun
as ever... at least Thursday night. Sadly, I missed the rest of the weekend. Why, you may ask? After a full day on Thursday, Scott and I drove from the Hard Rock Hotel back to the Sheraton where our rooms were. It was dark and has been raining lightly. Long story short, I tripped and fell hard on the pavement on
my left knee, catching myself with my right hand. I went to the ER at the local hospital the next day with a damaged left knee and right wrist. So, I was scheduled for three shows at the
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, and a perform- ance at the Friday night banquet before a cap- tive audience. The fall changed everything. I could barely walk and could not play my gui- tar. After the E.R., we went back to the Hard
Rock Hotel and had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe. The pain meds made me extremely sleepy, so we went back to the Sheraton where I slept and Scott went to the ban- quet/musical performances by Charlie Daniels and others. I was seriously bummed. Me made a plan to meet Tom Bell and Ann downstairs for breakfast Saturday and then hit the road for the next ten hours. Now, back to Thursday. I played a 90
minute, 20-song set on Thursday afternoon at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and had a

full tilt blast! We had people coming in and out of the bar, but my dear friends Tom and Ann Bell and Scott Greene stayed the whole time. The sound system was it top form, and even with the music from the casino coming in my right ear, I could hear my vocal and guitar very well. That’s key. I had a blast play- ing about 90% original songs, along with cov- ers of tunes by Marshall Tucker, Jesse Winchester, Jimmy Buffett, Warren Haynes
