15 BEST OF 2015

by Michael Buffalo Smith As they say, opinions are like... well, let’s

just say “everybody’s got one.” But being that I am blessed to have my own magazine, I’d like to share with you my personal opinions of the best albums that made 2015 memorable. Drop me an e-mail and let me know if you agree, or if you disagree.

1. Blackberry Smoke Holding All the Roses The greatest of the

new breed of Southern Rock bands, Smoke continues their legacy of great songwriting and stellar rock and country musicianship.

2. Donnie Fritts Oh My Goodness The Leaning Man of

Alabam, Funky Donnie Fritts, is one of the South’s finest songwriters, and this CD pres- ents several examples of that fact.

3. Royal Southern Brotherhood Don’t Look Back: The Muscle Shoals Sessions Cyril Neville and company decended upon

the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and came out with their best record to date.

4. Warren Haynes (with Railroad Earth) Ashes & Dust Warren Haynes reinvents himself once again, showing a true knack for writing and

performing more laid back Americana style music.

5. Billy F. Gibbons Perfectamundo The ZZ Top front man steps out for a little

solo fun, with Afro-Cuban beats and more of his unique blues rock vocals and extraordi- nary guitar chops.

6. E.G. Kight A New Day The latest from “the

Georgia Songbird” is an- other great album in her already impressive discography. E.G. is a wonderful singer, player and songwriter.

7. Boxmasters Providence and Somewhere Down The Road Billy Bob Thornton,

JD Andrew and com- pany released an excel-

lent double album in 2015 as well as an unreleased gem from their archives, support- ing the music with their biggest ever tour. It was a Boxmasters kind of summer.

8. Kinky Friedman The Lonliest Man I Ever Met The Kinkster, a world-class novelist, song-

writer, and politician, delivered a rare album , and it is his best yet.

9. Gov’t Mule Dark Side of the Mule The Mule rocks Pink Floyd live. What more

do you need. “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” is a standout track.
