GUITAR GEAR Moody Leather Guitar Straps

REVIEW by Michael Buffalo Smith

Moody Leather offers a nice selection of

hand-made guitar straps. The one I am re- viewing is the 4.0”, leather-backed strap. It is a black strap with cream colored backing. (retail starts at $160) This strap is both stylish and functional,

with a shiny black leather surface. I love the fact that there is no metal or buckles to scratch the finish of your guitar. I have had that happen before, and nothing makes me madder than a ding in my shiny new axe. Made from the finest soft, supple, luxury

leather imported from Italy, the leather-backs on the straps are made from Italian glove leather, providing maximum shape to distrib- ute the weight of the instrument over a greater portion of your shoulder, thereby al- lowing for stress-free playing. Anyone who plays a Les Paul knows how hard some straps can be on the shoulder. Moody also offers suede backed straps.

These are thinner and provide sufficient grip to hold your guitar or bass perfectly in place. Every Moody strap is reinforced with double stitching, and made in the U.S.A. These have to be the most comfortable

straps ever, and I noticed a significant drop in neck pain during my first gig with a Moody strap. All straps come with standard size tail-

pieces at no additional charge. When ordering a strap, the tailpiece can also be upgraded to "long" and "extra-long" sizes for an additional fee. Tailpieces can also be purchased individ- ually from the Moody web site. the 'Standard'

size tailpiece, the strap adjusts from 37 inches to 49 inches. Using the 'Long' size tailpiece, the strap adjusts from 47 inches to 54 inches. Using the 'Extra Long' size tailpiece, the strap adjusts from 53 inches up to 60 inches. By the way, Moody also offers the more

narrow 2.5” straps with either leather or suede backing. Also be sure to check out their various colors of handmade leather wallets Just a few folks who wear Moody leather

straps include: Joe Bonamassa, Rick Der- ringer, Steve Miller, John Mayer, Billy Shee- han, Lee Ritenour, Billy Greer (Kansas), and Joan Jett. Oh yeah, and now, Michael Buffalo Smith. Buff says, “check ‘em out!”
