and others. Fun. Closely after my set, it was time to move
over to The Hard Rock Cafe concert hall for the golf pairing party, auction and concert, and boy howdy was it ever fun. Beginning with sets from the Hard Rock Talent Contest winners, the music kept coming all night long.
this point. I will get the names and relations straight, because both bands just kill it on stage. The Bearded Brothers are truly great, and their hot fiddle player adds a lot to the proceedings. The Embry Brothers Band rocked the
house as usual. These guys just get better with age. Brandon and Jesse and the rest of the guys raised the roof on the Cafe the Cafe, doing several of their songs, classic covers and one big surprise, an apt cover of a Pharell Williams dance song. The girls on the floor were dancing their buns off. But before the dance party, they blew me away with their take on Alabama’s “Mountain Music,” bring- ing the fiddle player from The Bearded Broth- ers out to rip it to shreds on the fiddle solo at the end. Boy, he’s good. Next, they brought out the man if the hour,
Charlie Daniels. The Embrys are the perfect backing band for Charlie, and it’s obvious they had woodshedded over some serious hours to nail Charlie’s original songs. This was the closest thing to the CDB since Tommy Crain’s band backed Charlie several years ago. Just amazing. Charlie opened with what must be one of
Brandon Embry. (Photo by Michael Buffalo Smith) Scott and I sat at a front table with our
buds Tom and Ann, and we were joined shortly by another good friend, Lori Putman. We had so much fun catching up and listen- ing to the great music. Angelus regulars Confederate Railroad
played a loose, jam-style set that included their biggest hit ever, “Trashy Women,” as well as a rocking take on the Georgia Satel- lites hit “Keep Your Hands To Yourself,” and they got the packed house on their feet with their cover of “Sweet Home Alabama.” Danny Shirley and the boys never disappoint. The Bearded Brothers are a hot band. Two
of the guys are the sons of one of The Embry Brothers, although I am kind of mixed up at
his favorites to jam out on with his sunburst Les Paul, “Further On Up The Road,” going at it head to head with the guitarists from the Embry’s band. It was obvious we were in for a good old fashioned Southern jam, the kind this writer absolutely lives for. Full disclosure here, I don’t fully remember the order the songs were played in, but I do remember that I was standing right in front of Charlie, snap- ping photos with my substandard iPhone 4. (Talk about needing an upgrade! LOL.) At one point, Tammy Williams was beside me, just a dancing. We were having huge fun! One song that has remained a favorite of
mine since it came out was “The South’s Gonna Do it Again,” and on this night, it rocked hard. The song is a timeless tribute to the forefathers of Southern Rock. Kind of a “roll call” if you will. Billy Dean came onstage
