ARTS & CULTURE / ARTS Mind’s eye

Local mental health charity West Kent Mind has joined forces with Tonbridge School to host their Mind’s Eye art exhibition, which will take place in the Tunnel Gallery at Tonbridge School from 14th to Saturday, 19th December and will bring together a diverse range of artists. West Kent Mind work to ensure that anyone experiencing a mental health problem has somewhere to turn for support and advice. Art groups are just one of the

many group activities they provide for fun, social contact, friendship and vital access to peer and professional support.

The art on display at the exhibition

will feature many of the people who use the charity’s services as well as a number of artists from the local area including a donated piece from well- known artist Melyvn Evans. Art can be a very powerful way

of expressing emotion and can offer people with mental health problems a fantastic escape from the problems they experience in day-to-day life.

The exhibition is a celebration of the power of art and a fantastic opportunity for visitors to experience the work in a wonderful venue. On 15th, 16th and 18th December the gallery is open from 11am to 4pm and from 11am to 9pm on the 17th and 19th.

JOHN OTWAY AND

THE BIG BAND The Forum, Tunbridge Wells, 5th December It’s hard to believe we are already in December, but there is no better cure for those

winter blues than John Otway & Co. John has built up an enormous cult following almost entirely on the back of extensive touring. His fan base has remained loyal and people still turn out in hoards to see this musician perform. • Call The Forum on 0871 277 7101.

The Beau Nash, Tunbridge Wells, 12th December I must confess that I had little knowledge of this band and had never

actually seen them perform until recently, after many recommendations. With guitarist Paul Reader on vocals, Johnny Moss on bass and Tim Carter on drums, this exciting three-piece rock band performed live on Something for the Weekend on BBC Radio Kent. Expect some Hendrix, Cream, Rolling Stones and Kinks covers. • Call the Beau Nash on 01892 539350.

JOHN EDMONDS BAND

The Anchor, London Road, Sevenoaks, 31st December Everybody wants to be selective about their choice of venue on New Year’s Eve. Sometimes it’s about locality, often it’s about the music. If you’re thinking about the latter and enjoy electric blues, then look to further. This classy guitarist and his band are Infl uenced by all the great Chicago blues musicians of the last century. • Call the pub on 01732 454898.
