NEWS DECEMBER NEWS Rambling on…
Step out with the Ramblers during its free, annual Festival of Winter Walks, from 19th December to 3rd January, where walkers across the region will be 2016 leaving footprints in the snow as they explore the area at its wintry best. From short festive strolls to blow away the cobwebs, to heartier rambles to burn off the Christmas indulgence and kick-start New Year’s resolutions, there’s something for everyone in the South East to enjoy. Ramblers’ Chief Executive, Benedict
Southworth, said: “Winter is one of the best times to go out for a walk. There’s something truly magical about putting on your hat and gloves, heading out with your loved ones and perhaps even being the fi rst person to leave footprints in the snow. “Our walks during the festival are free, fun, friendly and open to everyone, so wrap up warm and join us.”

Light Up a Life Families and friends looking to celebrate
the memory of a lost loved one this Christmas are invited to join in Hospice in the Weald’s annual Light Up a Life service. Last year, 500 people took part in the outdoor service at the Hospice in Pembury, lighting a candle in memory of someone special.
This year’s service will take place at 5.30pm on Saturday, 5th December with carols from Women in Harmony and the hospice’s own community choir, supported by the Salvation Army band. • Visit

CHARITY OF THE MONTH
Did you know around one-in-six households in Tunbridge Wells live in poverty? Or that Nourish Community Foodbank has distributed more than 1,000 emergency foodbags to people in crisis since April this year? Christmas is a particularly diffi cult time for those in need, which is why Nourish is asking Tunbridge Wells residents to support its Our Town Cares festive campaign. “Last year we helped 54 families have a Christmas dinner they would otherwise have missed out on. This year, we anticipate at least the same number will need our

support,” says Nourish Co-chair Paul Haines. Under the Our Town Cares banner, Nourish will be busy with a number of events to ensure no one need go hungry in Tunbridge Wells over the festive season. “We rely on the generosity of the public making donations; getting involved in one of the Our Town Cares events makes a huge difference to the support we can offer,” adds Paul. To show you care you can:

• Donate money in exchange for bag packing at Asda on Longfi eld Road on 15th & 16th December.
• Donate food at Nourish donation stations in Asda, Sainsbury’s and local stores, such as the One Stop in Rusthall and Frant Stores. • Organise special work, school, street or church collections.
