Cook’s ‘biggest and best’ opens in


Tunbridge Wells! COOK (www.cookfood.net), the creator of food for your freezer, has opened the world’s biggest and best Cook shop right here in Tunbridge Wells.

from the shop Cook first opened in 1997, the new concept store will be bigger and better. It will stock Cook’s full range of hand-made meals, plus quality food and drink from local suppliers.

Welcoming locals back into Eridge Green’s Nevill Crest and Gun is high on the list of priorities for new landlord, Ian Huxley, who has taken over the management of the pub restaurant. After a successful two years leading its Sussex sister pub, The Bolney Stage, Ian is bringing his friendly style, flair and creativity to The Nevill, which was lovingly restored six years ago. Joining him will be wife Fran, their children Vickie and Shaun, and pet spaniel, Jak Jak, all very much looking forward to becoming part of the local community. Ian, who has lived in the area for


more than 16 years, always admired The Nevill, and after its refurbishment, added it to his wish list as a pub he would love to manage. Now, having proved his worth at The Bolney and prior to that The Cat Inn in West Hoathly, where his team were awarded a Michelin Bib, Ian’s dream has come true. And he really


does have some great ideas on how to put the “local back into the heart of the local”, with his plans to support nearby suppliers and tempt the community through the doors. “What is a local pub without locals?” asks Ian, “simply a soulless restaurant! I anticipate my pub to be brimming with great characters, warmed by local ales and wines from places like Chapel Down and The Black Cat Brewery in Groombridge.” Ian is also very keen to develop


relationships with his neighbourhood suppliers by buying in more locally- grown ingredients and produce. “There is such an abundance of suppliers of fine produce in the Tunbridge Wells area offering excellent wine, beer, vegetables, fruit, flowers, and meat. Edward Perry said: “Cook Tunbridge Wells was one of the first shops we opened back in 1997 and just happens to be my local, so we’re delighted to be opening this new concept store.” As one of the UK’s first certified B Corporations, Cook is committed to positioning the interests of employees, communities and the environment alongside those of its shareholders and the new shop will be forging relationships with community groups. It will be providing meals to a Tunbridge Wells project that offers housing to vulnerable young parents. The shop will also give local community groups a 30% discount on food for any events they may be holding.


DIARY DATE


On 22nd December the award-winning restaurant Chapter One in Farnborough will host its Appledore Turkey Preparation Class. Led by Chef Patron Andy McLeish, guests will learn with a 6kg-7kg turkey how to: • Prepare a chestnut and bacon stuffing (to be taken home). • Truss and stuff the turkey and prepare the bird for the oven.


• Carve the perfect turkey. As part of the course, guests will be given a turkey to prepare to be taken home – ready to cook for Christmas lunch. The price of the course is £130 per person, which also includes a three-course meal.
