FAN OF THE MONTH Candy Gesell attended a Lynyrd

Skynyrd show Concert on August 28,2015 at Rose Music Center, Huber Heights, Ohio. She wrote us the following letter the next day. We decided that anyone who was this big a fan of Skynyrd and con- cerned about saying the wrong thing at a meet and greet deserved to be Fan of the Month. By the way, the letter has indeed been for- warded to Johnny Van Zant.

Good morning. I'm not sure if

you can help, but if so please do. A few weeks ago my husband and I had front row seats with meet and greets for Lynyrd Skynyrd. This was my treat to myself for surviving breast cancer, pur- chased the ticket for the August show I think in February or early March, I was still doing the radiation treatments. Anyway, We get to the venue and get our paper work for meet and greet, which stated no pictures and no autographs. I was heart broken, so with Sharpie ready, my plan was to be last in line and break the rules. Many years ago I sub- scribed to your GRITZ magazine, and I had that issue with me. You know the one I'm talking about. The cover of Gary Rossington with his wife, so this was what I wanted signed by Gary and Dale. Mike my husband and I were next to the last people in line, my turn, Johnny gave me a big hug, Gary was next to him, and I ask if there was any way in the world he and his wife would sign a maga- zine, Gary said sure. Dale and the other fe- male singer were not there for the meet and greet. So, after my picture, I got my magazine ready Sharpie ready, and then another fan asked to use my Sharpie, I said No, but I had another he could use, it was blue. He wanted the black, it would match his poster better,

but I stood my ground said no again, then Johnny is the first one over my way, I was not ready, the other fan threw me off and I was not focused. Johnny started to sign the maga- zine, I blurted out “no, you can't sign this,” and he walked away, I made it worse by say- ing “Ronnie wait.” Gary came over signed an album, then Rickey came over signed one album. I slid the next album out and said “I don't know if your on this one or not, just sign it.” I felt so bad about what just happened and did not want to screw up again. Rickey was on it, he pointed himself out on the cover opened it showed me his name inside in a couple places. I told Rickey I would love to have a stage pick from him and if he could put it right here in my hand. He said sure, and after “Simple Man” he kissed the pick and put it in my hand. I was so happy, but I have felt awful, like I disrespected Johnny I feel the need to apologize to him. So, I ask you if you can possibly forward this to him in some way shape or form, I’d really appreciate it.

Thank you. Candy
