NERD NATION

by Michael Buffalo Smith After Phoenix Comic Con, I made the some-

what brave decision to come out publicly. As a nerd, that is. After all, I have been a big fan of science fiction, comics, horror movies, Stephen King and all the rest since I was 15. I somehow pushed all of that to the back of my mind as I began to concenterate on music and music history, and started producing GRIT magazine and then KUDZOO, writing books and the like. When my buddy of 40 years, Eric Wenzel invited me out to Comi- con in Phoenix, it reignited my passion for all things nerd. Of course, the minute I dis- covered Chris Hardwick and his nerdist.com, it was like trow- ing gasoline on the fire. So now I follow such TV shows as Orphan

Black, The Strain, The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead, The Blacklist, Arrow, The Flash and several others. I probably watch too much television, but I tend to watch late at night to destress after working all day, so I think it’s okay. (Self psychoanalysis 101.) There are a couple of new shows I am al-

ready hooked on. The Bastard Executioner is kind of Sons of Anarchymeets Game of Thrones, produced by Kurt Sutter (SOA), and then there’s Blindspot featuring the lovely Jamie Alexander (born right here in Upstate

WE’RE HOME. CHEWY: I can honestly sat that I have never anticipated the release of a movie the way I do this one. These guys are like family - espe- cially the wookie. (Image © The Disney Company)

S.C. , by the way) as a girl who wakes up in a zippered bag in the middle of Times Square, naked and covered from the neck down in tat- toos, her memory completely wiped clean. We learn very quickly that each of the mystery tattoos is a clue, and so begins what appears to be a pretty awesome series. But then again, I liked The Whispers, and it has been can- celled. Not to mention the wonderfully creepy Hannibal. The great thing is, when the pro- ducers learned the show would not be re- newed, they came up with a powerful but bloody final episode. Freaky doesn’t even begin to describe it. Another great show that ended is Under The Dome. At least they say it is over. If you ask me, the final episode more than set every- thing up for an-

other season, or perhaps a spin-off. AMC's Fear the

Walking Dead set a record for the biggest cable-series debut ever, attracting 10.1 million viewers for its 90-minute opening episode, setting up the shortest first season since The Walking Dead debut. Looks like it is primed for a long run. Gothamreturned last week, bigger and

better than ever, with a soon to be Joker in tow, and Marvel’s Agents of Shield is back with plenty of Inhumans. Of course, the biggest story for me is coming in December when The Force Awakens, and Star Wars continues. More soon...... •
