Jamie Johnson, Colt Ford, Trace Adkins, Terri Clark, Montgomery Gentry, and the evening’s biggest surprise, the Lynyrd Skynyrd band, who rocked two songs, closing the entire show with “Sweet Home Alabama.” While Charlie has staged some excellent

Volunteer Jam tours over the past 15 years, tonight was a return to the old fashioned Vol- unteer Jams of days gone by. The real deal. KUDZOO asked a few of the participants to sum up their feelings on the 4oth Anniversary Jam.

"All things considered, best Volunteer Jam we've ever done." - Charlie Daniels

" The 40th Anniversary Volunteer Jam was really good. Everything ran like a well oiled machine. I didn't get to see as many of the other acts as I wanted to because every time I turned around, I ran into another old friend. Playing with Jimmy Hall, Leroy Parnell, Car- olyn Corlew, and Sixwire was an absolute blast. It was quite the rousing version of "Keep On Smilin." Charlie's set was great. Eric Church did the best vocal version of 'In America" outside of Charlie that I've ever heard. I was so honored to be able to go up and play and sing "Lonesome Boy From Dixie" with the CDB. It was awesome and I could feel Tommy's spirit alive and well. I've been performing for 46 years now and this was absolutely the most nervous I had ever been. I said a little prayer, stepped out on to the stage with Tommy's Goldtop, and the rest is history. No, it was not like the old days when all the Southern Rockstars of the day would show up, and it DEFINITELY wasn't the same without TC and Taz there, but it is a show I will always remember. God Bless Charlie Daniels! – Billy Crain

“Being asked to play the 40th Anniversary Volunteer Jam was a huge honor for Doug, Fred, Richard and me. Charlie Daniels, the CDB band and crew are like family. Backstage was like a big family reunion, it was over- whelming how many friends were there! The love we felt from the stage was astounding, it was a dream come true to be a part of it all. The music and spirit was amazing!”

- Greg Martin, Kentucky Headhunters

“ It was amazing to me to share the stage and the event with so many great talents from such a time span in the music.” - Justin McCorkle

“The 40TH Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam was one for the records! A place to see many old friends and meet a few new ones as well. Backstage was a constant "conveyer belt" of bands and musicians walking by and sharing stories of Vol. Jam's past and what they mean to them. From the Oak Ridge Boy's, classic country, to Ted Nugent, classic Rock, you got your fill of great music. The highlight for me that night had to be

shaking hands with 95 year old Marine vet- eran Gunnery Sergeant Jack Napel who fought in the Battle of Midway and many other battles during world war II. He was there being honored and representing the vet- erans that the Journey Home Project, and Vol. Jam is all about, To supports veterans of the US Armed Forces. Honor meeting you sir and thank you for

your service! And as Charlie Daniels said at the first Vol-

unteer Jam in 1974 and as he said again Wednesday night in Nashville "Ain't it good to be alive and in Tennessee!"
