Page 35 Why dental hygiene in pets is so important
Many owners aren’t aware of the issues that come with bad dental hygiene in our pets. Not only does bad dental hygiene cause cardiovascular and pulmonary disease, it also causes infections, abscesses and general discomfort.
Over the years we have had many pet owners complaining about the bad smell coming from their pets mouths, this smell is caused by an infection from bad dental hygiene. This bad smell is the bacteria they are breathing, drinking and eating, also as the plaque develops on the teeth it pushes at the gums allowing the bacteria to infiltrate through the blood vessels.
This is why we find dental hygiene to be a very important part of out pets routine.
When a pet’s mouth is in a bad condition it is necessary to carry out teeth cleaning by ultrasound to remove and clean the plaque, tartar and then disinfect the mouth. After this procedure it is very important to keep up dental hygiene by brushing the teeth to remove any left over food and plaque. And we can use the other products available to complement the brushing.
Dental hygiene is important at all ages of our pets life, if you have your pet from a young age it is a good idea to get them used to having their teeth regularly brushed, we have also taught many owners how to brush their pet’s teeth even if it has never been done before. With patience and the proper tools this can easily be accomplished.
A senior pets mouth is very important to upkeep, as with older age their immune system needs a bit of help and having bad dental hygiene can impact their health. At any age if there is bad dental hygiene it should always be addressed and a dental programme put in place to make sure our pets have a full bill of health.
For the months of October and November we are offering a FREE DENTAL CONSULTATION by appointment. And if you have any doubts about the condition of you pets mouth please don’t hesitate in calling us.
