La Mar de Tapas in Jávea: a chance to taste the best tapas, look at real crafts and listen to live music
The second weekend in October will be one of those really long Spanish bank holiday weekends, as the 9th is the Día de la Comunidad Valenciana, a regional bank holiday, and the 12th is a national holiday to celebrate the “día del Pilar” (Saints Day of la Virgen del Pilar), also called the Día de la Hispanidad (to celebrate the discovery of South America). If you live anywhere near Jávea, like to taste different seafood tapas and look at beautiful craft work, it might be fun to join the La Mar de Tapas Festival in the Port of Jávea, where you can sample tapas, look at crafts, listen to live music, and children will enjoy storytelling (and you can brush up your Spanish) and games.
For the fourth year in succession the bars and restaurants organise a “Ruta gastronómica”, offering special little seafood snacks (the famous tapas) at midday (from 12:30 am until 3pm, on 9th, 10th and 11th Oct.) and in the evenings (from 7pm until 11pm, only 9th and 10th Oct.). While wandering from bar to bar, you can also visit a small craft fair set up along the sea front promenade at the end of the Avenida Jaime I. Some 20 stalls offer a wide choice of good quality craft work, from original lamps made of recycled wood or metal wire, to some beautifully crafted mosaics; from ceramics to paintings and water colours; from wrought iron to wooden toys. And as this fair is organised by the regional craft association Amata, you can be sure of original work, all made by the people at the stalls - a sort of open air gallery, but a lot less expensive.
The fair opens from 9th to 12th October, from 11am until 11pm and does not close at midday. More information, also in English, on 639 979 678.
