Dartmouth SELF STORAGE

A

short drive from Sainsbury’s into the Townstal Industrial Estate and you can’t miss the big yellow signs of Dartmouth Self Storage, housed in a new

purpose-built building opposite RGC Builders’ Merchants and next door to Howdens. This facility was opened only in January this year and has already proved such a success that it is has recently expanded into new space. It’s the only self storage facility within 10 miles of Dartmouth and is run by store manager Jo Moon. Here Jo explains more about the business and what it offers. Has it taken long to get this business up and running? A lot of planning has gone into getting everything right from the outset. We have researched the market carefully and, having become full members of the self storage Association, have worked hard to meet the best practice in this industry. that ensures our procedures are robust, our contracts are clear and concise and the facilities are of the best quality we can make them. this gives our clients peace of mind and confidence in our professionalism. the fit out of the facility is top of the range and we’ve

ensured all our health & safety, fire prevention and security systems are of the highest industry standard. With Dartmouth self storage, you get an individual pin code entry and each unit is separately alarmed. there’s also 24 hour CCtV monitoring.

How many units do you have? We have over 100 units ranging in size from lockers providing 30 cubic feet of space to units ranging in floor area from 10 sq ft to 200 sq ft. typically, it could be 50-60 sq ft which would fit an average one-bed apartment. With a range of 17 different units, we have something for

everyone. We appeal to a wide cross-section of people and needs. It could be somebody moving home, or wanting to store their camping and sports gear or someone wanting to store their goods safely while letting their home. We have traders storing stock, tradesmen storing tools and equipment and also companies storing their archives with us. We have one couple that are off on their boat around the

world and a growing number who use the facility to de-clutter their houses whilst it’s for sale. We know that this helped sell the house of one client. We often find that people renovating their homes wander across from rgC, the builders’ merchants opposite, and then use self storage whilst the renovations are underway. One client is using their unit to store their new kitchen and appliances, which is then drawn down when needed by their fitter.

there’s really no typical client or typical reason to use self-

storage. It’s a growing industry as we all live in smaller houses with a lot more ‘stuff’.

Why is Dartmouth Self Storage different to other local storage facilities? We are the most convenient facility for residents in Dartmouth just 5 minutes from the centre of town. traditionally, self-storage has been in containers, often located in rural locations. Ours is indoors where it is secure and dry. You can also drive straight into the loading bay and not get anything wet. It’s very quick and easy to drive in and access your unit. We provide a convenient range of trolleys and a pallet truck to help make moving your items easier plus a good range of storage products such as boxes, furniture covers and bed protectors etc. Compared to typical container storage, we can be more

flexible on size, access is easier and security is so much better. You can get access at any time and store for as long or as little as you want. You are paying for security and peace of mind – we can store your antiques, beds, mattresses etc, belongings that come out as they went in. Our due diligence when taking on new clients is robust – we get full details on each client about which we are vigilant. because we are protecting the security of our other clients, we make sure we are comfortable about who stores with us and what they store meets our terms and conditions e.g. no flammable materials, illegal items etc. We get proof of ID and address from every client. We have also thought of the little things e.g. music

automatically plays in the background, which makes our clients, especially women, feel more safe and comfortable when alone in the unit in the evenings or at weekend.

When can you get access to your storage? Access is 7 days per week with access by pin code from 7am to 8pm, monday - saturday and 10am - 4pm on sunday. the office is manned from monday to Friday between 10am - 3pm (and 10am – 2pm on saturday).

How much does storage cost? We pitch our prices at the industry standard – it can be from as little as £6 per week. A 100 sq ft unit costs £35/ week and 200 sq ft is £68/week (incl. VAt). We encourage readers to come and look around the unit and have a chat with us or we can make a free, no obligation visit to their home to discuss their needs.
