doorstep – selling top local produce and all essential crabbing equipment. Bayards Cove – if you like a bit of history with your crabs this is the spot – if the crabs aren’t forthcoming the cannons can spark the young ones imagination as they pretend to protect and defend the town! And the lesser known spot is the footpath along the railway line in Kingswear. make sure you go at high tide and if you’re lucky you’ll get a close up of the steam train as it puffs past.

And the bet crab sandwiche in Dartmouth ?…..well that’s the hottest potato in town, but I’m rather partial to those from the takeaway Crab Shell Seafood & Sandwich Bar just off the Embankment on Raleigh Street!

Freh Air Fun for Free! Sometimes the young ones just need an opportunity to stretch their legs, expend some energy and jump about. So here are a couple of ideas for local playgrounds that should keep them amused for a wee while.

Coronation Park, Dartmouth – a great playpark with large sandy area, swings, pirate ship and other multiactivity units. suitable 0 – 12yrs. Convenient, spacious and with a handy café, Browney’s nearby.

Geoplay Park, Paignton – this is the largest and best playpark I know. Located on the seafront it has 4 different areas catering for toddlers as well as teens and designed around the four critical geological time periods in torbay’s history.

Dittisham Ham – small playground with a couple of swings, climbing frame and a slide. However the big asset here is the large green space where kids can run around, settle down for a picnic and all with a wonderful view over the river Dart.

Blackawton – recently refurbished and redesigned to suit all ages with a unique fortress, swing and a focus on accessibility.
