HMS SOMERSET Arrives in Dartmouth on tuesday, 25th August and departs monday, 31st August. Hms somerset was launched in 1994 and is a 4,500ton type 23 frigate of the royal navy. In the past year she has returned from a six-month Arabian gulf deployment, where she helped safeguard british shipping and energy supplies. she has been fully committed in the north Atlantic in the face of violent winter gales, protecting both the nuclear deterrent and the maritime integrity of our home waters. she raced to join the search for survivors from the stricken cargo vessel CHemFJOrD, lost with all hands off the pentland Firth. sOmerset also played a pivotal part in the joint-agency search and seizure of the motor vessel HAmAL, laden with a record quantity of cocaine bound for our streets. And, when not on operations, her team work exceptionally hard to maintain the readiness of a complex array of high-tech systems and machines.
