Are you in the way of your own success?
By Julio De Laffitte
I’ve mentored hundreds of entrepreneurs… and I’ve mentored hundreds of “entrepreneurs-in- the-making”. And I’ve discovered that there is a theme in habits that hold people back. I’ve seen it time and time again, that people get in the way of their own success. What? Have you met any unsuccessful entrepreneurs? These are people who are full of promise,
ideas, creativity and drive. But, time and time again… their ideas never “go” anywhere. And then I started to think about what are they doing… and what they are NOT doing. And I realised that these traits don’t only apply to entrepreneurs… but they apply to everyone.
Here are six habits that are (possibly) getting in the way of your success 1. You’re always right This is a biggie. How hard is it to hear someone else’s ideas? How hard is it to even consider the notion that someone else has a better version of your idea? In my mentoring, I’ve noticed that it’s
sometimes very hard for entrepreneurs to “hear” someone else’s ideas. I’ve seen this over and over again, entrepreneurs go to their team with an idea — and be very fixed on “how” it should “look”. So the “my-way-or-the-highway” stops
people from being able to contribute to you. How can you learn and expand if you’re closed to contribution?
2. You love starting projects, and you love starting projects so much that you never finish anything Some entrepreneurs just can’t finish. For whatever reason, it doesn’t matter how much time they have or how many people they enrol into their projects — they can’t focus and get it done.
Consider this: the only purpose of
starting… is to finish. Do you do this? Is it the wish of perfection
that holds you back from finishing? OR — do you love and crave the attention
you get when you ‘announce’ your ideas to people? Do you notice how you get lots of admiration, lots of compliments and positive feedback?

3. You ask questions, but don’t listen to the answers
t don
This is very closely related to “you’re always right”.
You know the type of person I’m talking
about. They ask for your opinion, but they’re only really interested in what you have to say if it’s exactly what they already believe. These kinds of entrepreneurs surround themselves with people who will only ever agree with them. They surround themselves with “yes” people. Again, you’re hindering your own growth and expansion when your environment only “allows” for your opinion to be voiced.
4. You micro-manage everything Unsuccessful entrepreneurs want to do everything themselves. This is nuts! Some don’t believe anyone else can get a job done as well as they can. But even if they were actually right about this — it’s an unsustainable business philosophy. To develop your leadership, it’s critical to
trust others. It’s critical to empower others. By not allowing others around you to ‘step-
up’, grow and develop… you’re hindering your own leadership capabilities.
5. Risk aversion — you always find reasons not to move forward You say… the timing isn’t right. You say… the economy isn’t doing well. You say… you don’t have enough capital. Whatever the excuse, you always have
one. But guess what? There will always be reasons to not move forward! You just have to decide to press on. Being an entrepreneur means that you
need to learn how to dance with risk. Risk winning. Risk losing. As entrepreneurs, we all make mistakes.
That’s part of the fun of being willing to take risks. But over the years I’ve learned that the more humble and receptive you are, the more likely you’ll succeed.
6. You don’t celebrate your successes: “it’s never enough” runs your show Do you know people that are so driven that they never seem to stop? They never seem to pause and celebrate their wins? Their successes?
Do you know entrepreneurs that can’t
switch off? These are people whose successes are just never enough. It’s a tough gig trying to love these
entrepreneurs. They push away compliments. They push away a sense of achievement… instead they keep striving for (more) success. You don’t have to be an entrepreneur to be in the way of your own success. To varying degrees, everyone displays these habits.
What’s really at risk when we are in our own way is the connection with self. What’s at risk is connection with our higher self. And a lack of connection with friends, family and community. How are you in the way of your own financial
success? In the last 19 years I’ve mentored over 723 people to become multimillionaires. Are you one of them. NO? Why not? What’s the barrier between you and financial
success? If you are willing to get yourself out of the
way of your success, then I invite you to attend an amazing discovery event. It’s an educational seminar that has you look-into — and distinguish — where and how you are unconsciously attracting the (lack of) financial success .
