MEMBER ZONE BIG STEP FOR SHOE WORKSHOP
High profile names in the footwear industry attended the official opening of a new facility at the University of Northampton to help develop the talents of future shoe designers. John Saunders, chief executive of the British Footwear Association, and
Mark Jeffery and Guy West from designer label Jeffery West, in Northampton, were among the guests who saw the high quality workshop being unveiled by John Miller, Clerk to the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers. The new facility will provide footwear students with additional space for
their work and complements the existing studios and range of workshops already at Avenue Campus. It will also give them the opportunity to use the facilities in the
university’s Institute for Creative Leather Technologies. In his speech, John Miller, said: “We’ve always felt there’s great
opportunity for Northampton as the centre of the shoe industry and the university has the ability to build on the pedigree of the footwear industry that’s based here – Northampton is where it all happens and that’s a great advantage for its students.” Dr Julie King, subject leader for fashion and textiles at the university,
said: “We are all delighted to have such an incredible resource now available to our footwear and accessories students. It will help them become more technically proficient than ever before and builds on the amazing footwear heritage of Northampton.” The university has strong connections with the industry and often hosts
regular guest speakers, as well as supporting the students with internships and work placements.

‘SECURITY OPERATORS TRAINED TO CARRY OUT A RANGE OF SERVICES WOULD NOT ONLY REDUCE FIXED SITE COSTS BUT ADD VALUE ACROSS EACH SITE’
Managing director Angus McFadzean, said: “A number of our clients nationwide asked if we could supply an alternative to traditional site security. “We quickly identified that multi-

provide highly trained security operators, CCTV control and site administration.
Site security has been added to ISM’s services
It also supports site health and
safety initiatives by working proactively to identify operational non–conformance. Founded in 2007, ISM has grown
throughout the recession into one of the UK’s leading warehouse and production hygiene services. It operates in warehouse distribution and transport industries and the public sector. Angus added: “From the UK’s
busiest airport car parks to Europe’s largest production and distribution facilities ISM provide high quality cost-effective support services.”
