ISSUE SPOTLIGHT: EDUCATION & TRAINING VENUE FORGES NEW PARTNERSHIPS
The Castle venue has unveiled a scheme to help forge strong partnerships with Northamptonshire schools and education providers. The Wellingborough venue’s Activate scheme enables
schools, colleges to become an educational partner with the theatre, share joint aims and objectives with The Castle and other schools, and benefit from a wealth of offers for both students and staff. Two levels of membership are available – primary and
secondary or further education – with tailored benefits to suit all levels of education. By becoming a member, educational establishments
can benefit from activities including an introductory dance/drama workshop for students, a termly newsletter outlining upcoming performances at The Castle and ticket discounts for school trips. Activate members work closely with The Castle’s
participation team who offer support with arts in their schools, as well as skill development sessions for teachers. This also includes invitations to termly forums, designed to bring local teachers and lecturers together to exchange, develop and strategise. The Castle’s participation and engagement manager,
Alex Leonard, said: “Activate offers schools and colleges the opportunity to have a voice at their local arts venue and to gain a wealth of professional support and guidance for their students. We are keen to build strong and lasting relationships with our local educational establishments and encourage them to join now to start accessing the wide range of benefits.”
Annual membership to Activate starts from £75. To find out more, email Alex Leonard at

ADVERTISEMENT FEATURE TRAIN TO GAIN
Training and education is the oxygen of high performance in business. More often than not, its people are not only the most expensive resource of any business they are also its most important. FG Solicitors are a dedicated team of employment law and HR
specialists with a highly regarded reputation for working with employers to optimise the performance of their workforce.
‘THE REQUIREMENT FOR TRAINING AND EDUCATION CONTINUES THROUGHOUT THE LIFE OF AN EMPLOYEE’
All stages of the employee lifecycle need to be supported by training to achieve successful outcomes. At the outset, clear identification of existing employee skills are essential, these must then be aligned with the requirements for the role and any training gaps addressed to give the best possible start to employees. The requirement for training and education continues throughout the life of an employee and range from interpersonal and team working skills to more finely tuned role specific training. The training needs of managers and supervisors should also be a key
focus of employers. These are often overlooked as employees make the transition from effective employee to supervisory roles. A lack of effective training represents fertile grounds for suboptimal performance, not only for the individual manager or supervisor, but also for employees reporting into them. Inevitably this also enhances the risk of claims against the employer.
