WORK GETS UNDER WAY ON £6.5M SCHOOLS’ PROJECT

Corby-based builder Jeakins Weir has started work on the first of 13 extensions to Leicestershire primary schools working for Leicestershire County Council. Jeakins Weir was awarded the contracts totalling £6.5 million through

the East Midlands Property Alliance (empa) Framework with each job ranging in value from £250,000 to £1 million. Jeakins Weir is building new classrooms as well as extending halls and kitchens. The majority of the projects are being carried out during term-time and

with the schools remaining fully operational. This means that Jeakins Weir does not have the cost and delivery issues associated with compressing simultaneous building projects into the school summer holidays. Alistair Weir, managing director of Jeakins Weir, said: “It is tremendous

to be working with Leicestershire County Council on this important programme. “The empa framework is perfect for education projects particularly when

we are faced with multiple sites and overlapping timescales. Thanks to empa we have been able to understand the individual requirements of each school and offer each of them value for money.” Jeakins Weir are specialists in construction, responsive repairs and

property development. It is a family-owned company which has been in business for over 40 years where it has built many of the East Midlands public buildings – from schools and colleges, to hospitals and theatres. It has a thriving business repairing and maintaining homes for councils and housing associations.

NEW PHASE FOR PALLET MANUFACTURER

A new senior management team has been appointed to help bring a Northamptonshire pallet manufacturer through its next phase of evolution. Patrick Mulhall joins as managing director at The Alternative Pallet

Company, while David Rose is the new sales director. The Wellingborough firm manufactures lightweight fibreboard pallets

(from paper and PVA glue), providing a green alternative to conventional wooden and plastic pallets under the brand name Pallite. Patrick said: “There had historically been a lot of focus on

converting a select number of accounts (primarily pharmaceutical) over to Pallite. “The product fit is perfect but these things take time; so it is key to raise the awareness of the company and product to a broader audience. “The team is growing and alongside my new sales

director David Rose, we have been working hard as a team to generate interest and excitement in what may otherwise be considered a fairly mundane market.” The firm shot the company’s first video showing a

6kg Pallite made from recycled paper and glue supporting a 3.5 tonne truck. More recently, Pallite’s capabilities were tested by an eight tonne tractor. Patrick added: “This highlights just one of the

Stacking up: an eight-tonne tractor tests the Pallite’s capabilities

many benefits of our products. We would like to hear from anyone who would like to challenge Pallite’s capabilities.”
