ISSUE SPOTLIGHT: EDUCATION & TRAINING ACADEMY WILL BRIDGE SKILLS GAP
Northamptonshire training provider NITAL is to launch an academy to help stem the skills shortage in the engineering industry. The training academy, which will be based
in Kettering, has been designed to equip apprentices with the skills needed by employers in the engineering and manufacturing industries. It will offer employers with engineering
and manufacturing apprentices the flexibility of either day release or full-time off the job training for the first 20 weeks of the apprenticeship, starting from September this year. There will also be a number of full-time
students who will be looking to secure apprenticeships through NITAL, so employers will be encouraged to visit the academy if they are looking to recruit apprentices who have been trained with relevant engineering fundamentals. Dan Barker, who has been appointed as
training academy manager, said: “We’ve talked to local employers in the engineering industry about helping them to recruit and designed a training programme to meet their skills requirements. “The academy will offer post-16 training and teach young people the

be teaching employability skills such as clocking-in and clocking-out so young people will learn about what is expected of them in the work place.”
