together. He also made a strong, personal appeal, and it was suc- cessful. In fact, I think this was probably the beginning of WME sponsoring the higher education of certain select students on a one-on-one basis in Africa.


It wasn’t easy for Simel. With lit- tle additional help, he went off to boarding school far away from home to be educated. There were difficulties, and the ball was dropped on several occasions by those on the ground who should have done a better job. But like Job of old, Simel Francis hung in there. Simel kept his eyes on the prize set before him.


A WME team went to Kenya in March of this year. David and Victo- ria Schneider met with Simel Francis once again at Emuruadikir. Simel has now graduated from high school. Due to his excellent grades, he will receive placing in a University. While Simel awaits college, our principal at the Emuruadikir School is using Simel as a teacher among the Maasai children be- cause they all recog- nize how gifted Simel is. So Simel is now an instructor in the same place where he stood when he approached me years ago.


It is hard for me to convey how much it means to me to see this young man press through to success, and not just for his own sake. It is young people like Simel
