What can you buy with 84 cents? In most places you can’t even pur- chase a soft drink or a bottle of water for that amount. You also can’t get a newspaper, a candy bar or a small bag of chips. But for 84 cents a day you could provide a child with things like food, clothing, medical care, an educa- tion and, in many cases, a children’s home in which to live. Your gift of that small amount can help make a real difference in the life of one of those at- risk children. You can do something right now to build a bridge from hope- lessness to hope, from insecurity to security, from death to life. I recently read that the most powerful source for the growth of the first century church was nonbelievers witnessing Christians taking in orphans. Almost two thousand years ago, this simple act of kindness had a profound affect on the hearts of those watching from the outside. It is no different today. When folks see acts of true compassion generated by faith, they are drawn in by those actions. They want to know what is behind them. And that is where they meet Christ.


You cannot save all five million children who may die this year, but you likely can save one. And perhaps your saving one will inspire those around you to save another. Maybe, because you started things rolling, the mission will spread to many precious souls of children in dire need.
