APPOINTMENTS


Moira Adams The Cabinet Secretary for Health,


Wellbeing and Sport, Ms Shona Robison has announced the appointment of a new Member to NHS Fife. Moira Adams was elected to the Board of NHS Fife in 2010 where she served for three and a half years as a non-executive member. She comes back to the Board with the wealth of experience gained in that time, with a good working knowledge of Board policy and procedures and a fi rm grasp of the skills required to scrutinise Board papers. In addition, she has lived in Fife for 38 years and, as the most senior member of three generations living in Fife, she brings an understanding of the services required for many of Fife’s communities’ health needs.


Dr Catherine Calderwood Dr Catherine Calderwood has been appointed as the Scottish Government’s new Chief Medical Offi cer. As Chief Medical Offi cer, Calderwood will advise the Government how best to protect and enhance the health of the population. Calderwood had been Acting Deputy Chief Medical Offi cer under Dr Aileen Keel CBE, who had been in position on an interim basis. A consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist in NHS Lothian, with a special interest in maternal medicine, obstetric scanning and high risk pregnancy, Dr Calderwood has also held a number of high profi le national roles including National Clinical Director for Maternity and Women’s Health in NHS England. She is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and is an honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.


Dr Ruth McKernan The Department for Business,


Innovation and Skills has announced the appointment of Ruth McKernan as Innovate UK’s new Chief Executive. Dr McKernan has a long track record of innovation and achievement especially in the pharmaceutical industry. Dr McKernan, who holds a BSc in Pharmacology and Biochemistry and a PhD in Molecular Neuroscience from Kings College, London, has had a distinguished career in the pharmaceutical industry.


Dr Graham Forbes CBE The Chair of the Mental Welfare Commission has been reappointed. The Very Revd Dr Graham Forbes CBE - is Provost of St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh. He continues to combine his ecclesiastical duties with chairing OSCR and the Court of Edinburgh Napier University. A former Chair of the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission, HM Inspector of Constabulary and lay member for Scotland on the General Medical Council, he was awarded the CBE in 2004 for public service in Scotland.
