AWARD WINNERS
Elizabeth Roddick accepts the Award on behalf of Joanne with Jason Andrews, Publisher, Scottish Pharmacist Magazine
PRE-REGISTRATION STUDENT OF THE YEAR JOANNE MALLOY, NEW LIFE PHARMACY, GLASGOW
Joanne Malloy of New Life Pharmacy in Glasgow was presented with the Pre-Registration Student of the Year Award. Joanne has been working in New Life Pharmacy since her second year at Strathclyde University. She has been involved in community services such as a ‘Health and Wellbeing’ evening organised at nearby Netherlee school.
More importantly the pharmacy has teamed up with Lindsay Lockhart from the CarersTrust Scotland to pilot the idea of having a ‘Carers’ Champion’ in the pharmacy and possibly to develop this service throughout the community pharmacy network. Joanne is the Carers’ Champion for which she has undergone extra training, meetings with community workers and has spoken at a carers gathering about how community pharmacy can help.
Joanne was unable to attend the Scottish Pharmacist Award but her Chemi was picked up by her tutor, Elizabeth Roddick, on her behalf.
Elizabeth told us, “We decided to get together with Carers Scotland to focus additional work in the community with regards to helping carers. We are now hopeful this initiative will proceed Scotland-wide owing to its success. Joanne has been a phenomenal student and it has been wonderful to both, work with her, and to watch her progress and develop over the years.
“I am absolutely delighted to accept this award on behalf of Joanne; she has been so thrilled to have been shortlisted into the final three for this award and so winning will be the icing on the cake for her.”
