INNOVATION & CHANGE IN PHARMACY PRACTICE MACMILLAN PHARMACY SERVICE


The Macmillan Pharmacy Service, the first of its kind in the UK, is a new and innovative model of care that was conceptualised to support the advancement of PC clinical services from community pharmacy. Its services key ambitions are to help patients live and die well at home by improving the standard and availability of PC services in the community to meet both the needs and wishes of patients and support the Scottish Governments plans to shift the balance of care from hospital to community. The service has been a tremendous success and as a result, was awarded the Innovation & Change in Pharmacy Practice Award.


Catherine McCusker commented, “This is a great honour for the team, we are very proud. We know this

will increase our profile amongst community pharmacy and the wider multidisciplinary team to help us better engage and make a greater difference to our patients. We are certainly benchmarking services across not only Scotland but the whole of the UK.”


Pauline Brown, also from the Macmillan Pharmacy Service added, “We are very grateful to Macmillan for recognising the role that pharmacists have within the community for supporting the cancer patient. This has been a very fulfilling role to be involved in throughout this entire project, especially for these patients at this time of their life when what we do can make such a difference.”
