The Cream of Devon

Harbour Spa, Salcombe Harbour Hotel

R

ecently named as one of the ‘coolest places to stay in the UK’ by The Times newspaper and fresh from its multi-million pound relaunch, Devon’s landmark Salcombe Harbour Hotel has just had its first summer. Whilst one swallow

does not make a summer, by all accounts the refurbishment should pay dividends in buckets and spadefuls. Complementing the hotel’s spectacular waterside location, overlooking the Salcombe estuary, is the new Harbour Spa, featuring a 52 square metre pool, hydro pool, sauna, steam room – all designed and built by Newton Abbott pool specialists, Westcountry Leisure Pool & Spa Ltd.

Even the most hardened locals will agree that swimming in the sea whilst in Salcombe can be somewhat challenging at times and for those that prefer to be a little less Bear Grylls there is now a much more attractive alternative in the shape of the Salcombe Harbour Hotel spa. The newly renovated four star Salcombe Harbour Hotel, complete with luxury spa retreat, opened its door just before Christmas 2013 last summer being the true test of its facilities. says: “We have just had our first full summer since the hotel’s multi- million pound refurbishment and I can report that we have seen a significant upturn in business and repeat bookings. The Spa’s sumptuous offering has proved a major attraction with our visitors and played a large part in adding to their overall enjoyment and sense of satisfaction. It firmly places Salcombe on the map as one of England’s finest coastal luxury hotels.”

Regarded as one of the most attractive coastal towns in South West England, the Spa’s Torquay-based architects, Kay Elliott, consulted with Mark Gilpin of Westcountry Leisure to ensure that the Spa maximised the hotel’s stunning location. The jewel in the crown is the stunning indoor swimming pool. The lavish Spa is sunk into the cliff side and is spread out over two floors. Aside from the pool, it boasts five treatment rooms, a fitness suite, spa, sauna and steam room. This is a hotel that has carefully recreated an atmosphere inspired by its surroundings to relax and reinvigorate its guests in sheer seaside serenity. The vast floor to ceiling glass frontage brings the outdoors in. Longstanding customers of Certikin, Westcountry Leisure turned to
