Calibrate Generate Savings And Earnings At Breamish Valley Complex

Peter and Michele Moralee from the beautiful Breamish Valley Cottages Holiday complex were until recently spending a fortune on energy costs for their leisure facilities. The oil cost alone for their old system was running at £12,000 per annum. That was until they engaged Calibrate Energy in August 2013 to install a combined air source heat pump and solar thermal system that heats the pool, spa, air, radiators plus provides 1,200 litres of hot water daily. A year on and the facts have spoken for themselves. The new system was found to be saving and earning a combined total of £13,300 per year which has brought the total payback for the Moralees down to under four years – 12 months below the forecasted five years. This also means a combined income of over £200,00 from year four to 20 thanks to the government scheme.

Contrary to wide held belief the boiler was not required once over the winter months and at the coldest time the heat pump was still 175% more efficient than the most expensive condensing boiler or biomass system, further cementing heat pump technology as the way forward as it has virtually no maintenance and no input from

the owner, all while providing a 20 year income stream. Engineer Morgan Corkill said: “Obviously it’s great to under promise and over deliver for Peter and he must be happy as we have just completed a much larger Ground source heat pump system at his other site which is again around 25% better than the forecast.’’

MasterTemp® Gas Heater ‘On The Spot’ Heating Efficiency

No matter what you’re seeking in your swimming pool heater, the MasterTemp heater

measures up. Compare this list of features to any other

and you’ll see why MasterTemp heaters are setting a new standard for total value.

With its revolutionary pre-mixed gas combustion technology, the MasterTemp heater offers 82% thermal efficiency – the highest of any heater in its category. MasterTemp is an economical alternative for a heat pump whenever water needs to heated ‘on the spot’ (in a holiday or rental home, in a spa or simply early or late in the season). Energy consumption calculations have demonstrated that, if a pool needs to be heated only two times per week (i.e. on the weekend), then it is more economical to use MasterTemp rather than a heat pump which would heat the pool all week long, depending of course on local gas and electricity costs.

Calibrate Energy Specialise in Commercial heat pump and solar cell systems with online controls solutions throughout the country, and with clients from London to Aberdeen their order book is filled up through to mid-2015 already so the business is thriving. Director Shane McDonald commented: “Our key point of difference is that we only do larger commercial contracts and each solution comes with an online controls package to enable us, and our clients, to track realtime tariffs and energy consumption. This combined with enabling Calibrate to change operating set points online across many different technologies means everything we do is very streamlined and easy to manage.”

Oxford Pool Complex Finally

Opens Its Doors The new pool complex which features a competition pool at Blackbird Leys is now open. The £9.4m scheme was initially delayed due a judicial review which meant works came to a standstill for 15 months. Managed by Fusion Lifestyle, the project was commissioned by Oxford City Council in a bid to update the leisure facilities at Blackbird Leys as well as create a benchmark facility in the Oxford area.

The project at the Leys Pools & Leisure Centre involved the construction of an eight lane, 25 metre competition pool which features a moveable floor, plus a learner pool, fun pool and other wet leisure facilities.

The scheme is on target to acheive a BREEAM rating of ‘very good’ which is in line with Oxford City Council’s sustainability drive which places a lot of emphasis on energy efficiency. A biomass boiler has also been installed as part of the extension.
