LOVIBOND APPS FOR TESTING AND BALANCING WATER The Lovibond®

team have implemented

Smart Technology to enhance their PM 630 photometer line. Already simplifying accurate water analysis with 34 pre-calibrated pool methods, the series has now been expanded to include wireless Bluetooth®

data transmission.

Now, results can be quickly and easily transferred to smartphones, tablets and PCs. The system is further enhanced by the free Lovibond®

App, AquaLX®

immediate review, process and evaluation of measured results directly on-site. Data trends can be monitored with easy-to- view graphical displays with set minimum

and saves the exact location of the operator. Furthermore, additional personalised information, such as the name of the pool and the pool engineer can be recorded, providing a complete information record of the measurement.

Records can be transferred at the touch of a button by email either as a graphic or database record, simplifying the transfer, management and sharing of results with customers and colleagues, facilitating cooperation over long distances. AquaLX®

complements the Langelier Index App, PoolM8, which negates the need for complex calculations for Balanced Water. When water is in balance, it is said to be neither corrosive nor scale-forming. In other words, it will neither dissolve an existing layer of scale nor will it deposit a layer of calcium scale. Unbalanced water can aggressively eat away at the pool’s infrastructure. The Langelier Saturation Index (sometimes also known as the Langelier Stability Index) was developed in the 1930s to determine a formula resulting in a single calculated number which is used to notify how much calcium is in the water. The golden result of just above ‘0’ means the water is ‘in balance’.

The Index is very reliable, using various parameters that can have an effect on the water balance and each is given a factor to give an Index value. Those parameters are: pH; Total Alkalinity; Calcium Hardness; Total Dissolved Solids; Temperature. Each of these parameters has an effect on each other proven by a formula. The formula, however, can be complex to calculate – often leading to errors in determining the exact value. The Lovibond®

team solved this problem

and is happy to share it with anyone who is interested in keeping the pool and spa pristine. Recently, PoolM8 has also been updated to include results for Cyanuric Acid and Free, Total and Combined Chlorine. Both Lovibond®

Apps are available for

Android and iOS and are free to download from the respective stores.

a professional water analysis laboratory that measures ten parameters of water chemistry with just one sample of water. Pool or spa water is added into a unique WaterLink Spin reagent disk, and then the disk is placed into the WaterLink Spin photometer. Each sealed reagent disk contains the precise amount of reagents needed to run a complete series of tests (Free Chlorine, Total Chlorine, Bromine, pH, Calcium Hardness, Total Alkalinity, Cyanuric Acid, Copper, Iron and Borate). The WaterLink Spin is run by an Android App available free in the Google Play App store. Within 60 seconds the tests are complete and results are transmitted wirelessly via Bluetooth to the user’s android tablet or mobile phone. With this technology, the pool and spa professional can get accurate, precise and replicable PPM readings poolside.
