Dr. Kimberly Samano received her Bachelor of Science in health science from the University of Miami and while working at NMS Labs, she completed her Master of
Science in forensic science from Arcadia University. Interested in further pursuing a career in the field of toxicology, she began her doctoral training in the spring of 2008 at Virginia Commonwealth University and earned her PhD in the field of pharmacology and toxicology. Her National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded research centered on the investigation of both analytical and preclinical aspects of synthetic cannabinoid compounds
and was recently published in the Journal of Analytical Toxicology. Dr. Samano’s research is well regarded and in 2013, she received several competitive awards to present her findings at the Society of Forensic Toxicologists, American Academy of Forensic Science and College on Problems of Drug Dependence annual meetings. She is currently working as a post-doctoral fellow at Quest Diagnostics in Lenexa, KS and is involved in analysis and review of routine urine, oral fluid and hair drugs of abuse testing, continuing education of technical and supervisory staff, and contribut- ing to the scientific literature. Dr. Samano has research interests in synthetic drugs, analytical toxicology, and workplace drug testing.
This drug was also found to be a uricosuric and has been used clinically since 1952.
