TECHNOLOGY Queue here for QR codes
If you’ve seen funny squares with dots on and wonder what is going on, you need to crack QR Codes.
One of the suppliers of these
novel barcodes is Z-Ah Property. Agents using the codes give potential buyers or tenants all the details of the property they are viewing by linking, via a scan from their mobile phone, directly to a mobile-friendly brochure while they are present outside the property.
The Z-Ah Property application allows potential customers to connect directly from the agent’s sign board, their press adverts or office window. For a limited period this service is free to all UK estate and letting agents while the company completes development of its full property marketing solutions platform, which will be available on 1 January 2012. Within seconds, potential buyers
or renters can see inside the house or flat and get all the details they
COMPETITION Metropix seeks budding artists
Metropix, supplier of floor plan based products to the estate agencies, has
launched a competition that invites agents to test their artistry skills by creating their very own work-of-art within the Metropix floor plan system. The competition has two theme options, ‘the highs and lows of the property market’ or ‘Christmas 2011’ and entrants have until 14 December 2011 to enter. The winning entrant will
receive a weekend break to a luxury central London hotel for two people. Judging will take place at the end of December with the winner announced in January. Three entries will be permitted per person. The Artistry competition is designed to illustrate the true flexibility of the Metropix floor plan system in creating

Property, said, “Our QR platform helps estate agents properly connect with house-buyers. Testing in Essex has shown that the service results in more instructions and more boards out in the field – we all know this is desirable. “We hope that all agents will be able to see past the QR element of our initial service and look at the forthcoming platform as a digital sales assistant that will help them, as forward-thinking property marketers, create a renewed buzz around their business. It’s going to be a great leap forward for the way they market their properties.” Visit

AUCTIONS
Twin events for Auction House
National property auctioneer Auction House in Cumbria has held its first ever double-centre auction, due to the high volume of lots entered into its October sale. The sales took place at opposite ends of the county on 6 October in Carlisle and on 7 October in Ulverston, £2.65m (£2,654,000) was
designs that are not limited by irregular shapes or patterns. The judges will be looking for creative interpretations of the given themes and anyone interested in submitting an entry must email the plan to
support@metropix.com, adding the plan reference number in the main body of the email and including ‘Competition Entry’ in the subject header. Brian Farrell, director of
Metropix said, “We are inviting the estate agency industry to let their creative juices flow and to develop a unique work- of-art by using the Metropix system. They can chose from one of the themes and judges will be looking for something unique that catches their eye – the more creative the better. We look forward to receiving entries over the coming weeks – good luck!”

raised in the auctions, where 44 lots were offered. The debut sale in Ulverston achieved an 82 per cent success rate with 9 out of 11 lots sold. Auctioneer Colin West said, “This is the first time we have organised an auction in two separate parts of the county and it proved a roaring success. Our first ever auction in Ulverston was held in Coronation Hall – a beautiful old theatre – and the room was packed with a range of investors, local estate agents, nervous buyers and expectant vendors. “There was a lot of competitive bidding which created a magnificent atmosphere. One property, a large three storey detached house in Ulverston needing renovation and with a guide of £500,000, attracted a lot of interest and sold for an undisclosed amount just after the auction.” In the Carlisle sale, a
prominent former YWCA building on the harbourside in Whitehaven sold for a almost double its guide price (£99,000), for £186,000. The atmosphere was briefly lightened when Colin West started the sale to the sounds of the song ’YMCA’ by The Village People! £1,694,500 was raised with 22 out 33 properties sold.
