Puttin’ On The Ritz. $110,000 was raised for Sarasota County’s homeless pets during the 8th annual Paws on the Catwalk Luncheon, a benefit for the Humane Society of Sarasota County. The dog-friendly Ritz-Carlton was the venue for the April 17 event. Co-chaired by Chris Voelker and Alex Miller, it was the most well-attended event in the shelter's history with more than 330 animal lovers. Some of the hottest shops in town, including INfluence Style, Lotus Boutique, Fresh Salon, Bohemian Bliss Boutique, T. Georgiano’s, The Giving Tree Gallery and Wet Noses Boutique, brought their best for an exclusive shopping experience. After lunch and a dazzling show, guests were treated to a fabulous fashion show, featuring HSSC’s beautiful four-legged friends on the catwalk. The live auction portion of the event was kicked off with

a donation by The New Barker - an upcoming cover, featuring the painted portrait of the winning bidder’s dog. The winning bid was $5,000 - all of which went to the shelter. Golden Retrievers Bob, Earl and Wallace Jones will have their portrait painted by an artist selected by The New Barker, which will then appear on a 2015 cover. Afterwards, Susan Malloy Jones, who won the auction item, will receive the original painting. Jill Raleigh, whose hus- band sits on the Board of Directors for the Humane Society of Sarasota County, bid for this puppy during the live auction. The puppy, from a high kill shelter out of Mississippi, set Jill back $1300, “All for a very worthy cause,” said Jill. HSSC.org
