TRUE BREW

I bought was vinyl, and the first case of beer I bought was, of course, filled with the quintessentially Canadian stubby bottles. I got to thinking about how the packaging
of both products has changed due to technological advances and how economic realities have impacted both industries (for better or worse). Today, personal access to music on a wide
variety of digital players can happen virtually everywhere, and three decades after the threat of an expanding global beer invasion that saw American beer giants bringing in their “longneck” format to become the “Industry Standard Bottle”, brewing in Canada is thriving. We’re blessed to have more than two dozen local breweries and brewpubs (and more than 200 provincially) giving us access to the largest selection we’ve ever had. Cheers to that!

amber with a crisp off-white head. Aromas of sweet caramel, clean roast and toasted malts with earthy and floral hops are followed by sweet caramel, biscuit, grains and citrus with a roasted malt bitterness as its backbone. Smooth medium body, with a slightly acidic but cleansing finish.

“B-Side Brewing” label (“like a record label, for beer”) last summer, they set out to team up with amazing brewers from all over the world to produce and market unusual styles. The first “artist” they signed was “Gypsy” brewer Anders Kissmeyer from Denmark, and their first collaboration will be on the charts for years to come. I had the pleasure of sitting in on a
