she is missing. Like many hunting camps
located in rural Ontario, the place is not a rated 5-star resort, and when we were there it was under some major renovations. In fact, the kitchen wall was missing entirely and was covered with a tarp that kept the rain out. It was very accommodating to the odd toad, mouse and garter snake that wished to escape the elements, too. Even with this interesting
shortcoming, the place did have all the amenities you might expect to find at a camp situated in the middle of nowhere. That is, a generator for electricity; a roof over your head; a gravity-fed water system; four queen-sized bunk beds for 16 guests; two generously-sized gas cook stoves; propane lighting; a huge dining area; plans for a couple of wood stoves; four strategically- placed outhouses ready for you in your time of need; and, quarters to house some hunting dogs. As the boys say, “What else do
you need?” Even though both my uncles
have now passed on, my cousin Evan continues to be a member of the camp. Last year his son, Brad, also became a full time member, ensuring three generations of the family have continuously walked and hunted on the same lands for the past 60 years. For many years, Evan has
wanted me to come and hunt the area as a guest of Camp 2 with the intention of eventually becoming a full-time member, but I am
