ybex was founded in 1970 as a division of Lumex, a medical products compa- ny that had been in busi- ness for decades. Lumex


designed and manufactured perfor- mance measurement and rehabilitation systems for hospitals. Its Cybex divi- sion gained a solid reputation as major sports teams and sports figures – from the Dallas Cowboys to Muhammed Ali – used its equipment in their athletic training and rehab programs. Over the years, the company ex-


panded and acquired other fitness and strength equipment manufacturers. In 1995, Lumex sold its medical sup- ply business and took on the Cybex

name. Two years later, Cybex merged with Trotter, Inc., an American fitness equipment company founded by engi- neer Edward Trotter in the early 1970s. Trotter treadmills were originally pro- duced in Ed’s basement but, by the mid-90s, it had grown into a huge business that had been purchased by UM Holdings in 1983. Cybex acquired several more fit-

Cybex had traded publicly since 1992, but it went private in 2013 and returned to the ownership of John Aglialoro and Joan Carter, the original owners of Trotter. Currently, Cybex has distributors
