TECHNOGYM I

t was 1983, the golden age of body building and hedo-

nism. The U.S.-branded stereo- type of hyper-muscular fitness à la Sylvester Stallone and Jane Fonda was all the rage worldwide. In Cesena, Romagna, Italy, young Nerio Alessandri thought differ- ently. To him, physical exercise meant much more – it was the es- sential condition that guaranteed a person's wellbeing. This insight led to the concept of wellness: a 100% Italian lifestyle with its roots planted in regular physical activity, healthy eating habits and a positive mental attitude. Guided by his vision, Alessandri designed and built his first equipment in his home garage. Today, 30 years later, Technogym is a leader in the field of fitness and wellness and official supplier to the last five Olympic Games. The company cur- rently employs 2,200 workers, ex- ports 90% of its product to over 100 countries and has equipped 65,000 wellness centres.

ohnson Health Tech (JHT) got its start in 1975 when founder Peter Lo received his first or- der to manufacture barbells. By the 1980s, JHT was the original equipment manufacturer

By 2001, Horizon Fitness and Matrix Fitness brands were launched. Throughout its gradual but massive growth, JHT has also established itself as a pioneer of product innovation. Many of the tech- nologies invented for JHT machines have now become industry standards (e.g., eddy current brake systems, the folding elliptical and round tubing on strength equipment). Currently, JHT is the third-largest fitness equipment manufacturer in the world and among

the industry’s fastest-growing manufacturers. A truly global company, JHT operates 20 inter- national subsidiaries and has sales in 80 countries.
