Jill van Mierlo, High School Gymnast, Heads to Nationals


J


ill van Mierlo, a San Clemente resident, is a dedicated and disciplined student athlete.


In addition to being a 4.0 student, she is a level 10 gymnast who trains 25 hours per week at Wildfire Gymnastics in Lake Forest. Jill has ex- perienced a great deal of success this season. At the State Meet held at the Ontario Convention Center in March, she scored a ca- reer high 38.00 All- Around which put her in 3rd place and qualified her to the Regional Championships. She is the State Vault Champion, scoring a 9.75,

placed 2nd on bars (9.5) and 2nd on floor (9.65). The Regional Champi-


onships, which consists of California, Arizona, Ne- vada & Utah, was held at the Disney Land Hotel in April. Jill, once again, walked away as the Vault Champion scoring a career high 9.8! Her 6th place All- Around finish qualified her to compete in the JO National Championships which will be held in Jackson Mississippi May 8-11th. Jill’s passion and dedication in the gym has


earned a full ride gymnastics scholarship to BYU in the fall. She is looking forward to becoming a vital part of the Cougar program and helping them qualify to NCAA Nationals!
