PROFILE TWOMORE INDUCTED INTO SAN CLEMENTE SPORTSHALL OF FAME

Two more outstanding San Clemente athletes will join last year’s inductees to grace the Sports Hall of Fame Wall at the San Clemente Aquatics Center. The brainchild of former City Mayor, Jim Evert, this honor is

awarded to noteworthy athletes who either grew up in town, or lived here when earning their accolades. The Friends of San Clemente Foundation has been responsible for the fundraising and establishment of this Wall.

Making Friends T

by Bill Thomas

he best thing about friends is creating them. The Friends of San Clemente Beaches, Parks & Recreation Foundation, a non-profit foundation, has them in all ages, sizes and shapes. In March, 2014, in recognition of this, the Foundation won the California Parks and Recreation

Society’s 2013 “Champion of the Community” award. This recognition names the Friends Foun- dation as the best non-profit program led by volunteers in this organizational category in the state of California. The Foundation’s San Clemente friends are real friends, not just passing acquaintances. They

include members of the community who have been involved in Foundation fundraising and activity events: skate, golf, and surf tournaments; track and field events; musical concerts; the cyber café; Carnival Colossal and Expo and other Foundation fundraising endeavors on behalf of San Clemente’s youth and adults. They include community activists, participants, donors, volunteers, and advocates. Specifically, they’re surfboarders, surfers, hikers, 5 &10K runners, children, teenagers, parents, swimmers, dog owners, music lovers, computer users, special needs kids, golfers, sports aficionados, scholarship selectees, and young football, baseball, soccer, rugby, and La Cross players, as well as people who just like parks. They’ve all participated in or benefited from a Foundation ac- tivity in the past. The Foundation is honored to have received this fine acknowledgement of its community efforts of service since its founding in 2000. Thank you San Clemente for helping us make San Clemente one of the best places to live and play in the whole U.S. … San Clemente Foundation Board of Directors.❂
