Leyland adds a touch of class

A stunning 19th century French Chateau- inspired building has been sensitively restored back to its former glory with Leyland Trade paint being tastefully used throughout. Plas Rhianfa Hotel, a magnificent Grade II listed

Victorian building on the Isle of Anglesey, has recently been extensively renovated to become a luxurious five- star hotel and stunning wedding venue. Originally built as a dower house by a prominent Anglesey family in the 1850s, inspired by French chateaus seen on their travels, the hotel now boasts 21 bedroom suites, four vast reception rooms, a wine cellar and tasting rooms, gym, games room and four bars. R M Owen undertook the painting of the interior of

the hotel, using Leyland products throughout in order to create a high quality contemporary finish for this historic building, which retains many of its original features. The work carried out by R M Owen was so impressive, it was granted a place in the finals of the prestigious Johnstone’s Painter of the Year competition, which is run by Leyland’s sister brand. The team of decorators used Leyland Contract Matt, which is

specifically designed for application on new work, to make light work of the restoration project. Ideal for work on new plaster, the permeable film provided by Leyland’s Contract Matt allows new plaster surfaces to breathe and dry out, whilst offering great coverage as a base coat. When the plaster was fully dried and to complete the project,

R M Owen used super durable Leyland Trade Acrylic Eggshell, in all areas of the hotel including bedrooms, corridors and the reception and bar areas in a wide range of colours, which had to match the exact shades requested. Ten times tougher than conventional matt and silk paint, Acrylic Eggshell creates an ultra tough, long-lasting finish, suitable for such high traffic environments. It is also ideal for use in kitchens and bathrooms and other areas prone to condensation. The ambitious project, which had to be completed to a strict deadline

ahead of the hotel’s scheduled opening, benefitted from Leyland’s quick drying paints, which significantly sped up the process. Time was so tight, that the team had to literally work around the clock, painting continuously with split shifts from 8am-8pm and 8pm-8am. As a result, it was completed in half the time such a demanding project would normally take. Martin Owen from R M Owen Painting and Decorating said: “I always

use Leyland paint because I know I can trust it to get the job done. Plas Rhianfa was a tough project with such a tight timescale and a huge amount to do, but thanks to Leyland’s quick drying emulsions we were able to not just meet the deadline, but exceed it.” 
