Dear Members
I hope you all had a great Christmas, and I would also like to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year. Let’s hope that 2014 will be a good year for your business and good health for all of our members.
It has been eight weeks since I was elected into Office and became your
National President. In that time I have attended the World Skills Show in Birmingham and the National Painting & Decorating Show at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
The World Skills Show was excellent; the standard of work was very high
from the apprentices engaged. I was disappointed that only one apprentice was representing our decorating firms, all the other entrants came from colleges. I would hope that 2014 is the year when more of our member apprentices are engaged in this competition, with more firms taking on more apprentices to sustain the industry.
On 6 December 2013, Joyce and I were invited to attend the North East
Regional Christmas Luncheon to celebrate their 150 Anniversary Year. This was held at the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate. It was like a blast from the past, seeing members and friends talking about the history of the Region.

Sam Davies National President
Norman Nuttall gave an excellent speech, with lots of humor, which is
typical of Norman. Bob Smith gave us the history of the past 150 years of the North East Region since its inception, this was excellent – I do have to say though Bob you certainly do not look your age!!
The highlight of the day for me, was when
Alan Pearson, North East Regional President presented me with a plaque making me an honorary member of the Region. He also bestowed the same to Norman Nuttall.
I would like to thank all at the North
East Region and once again wish you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR.
