Kimberley Manley

Thanks to Children's Wish, Kimberley Manley, with her parents Cindy and Dale, and with her brother, Jeff (not pictured) spent a week in Disney World in 2013. In Grade 10, Kimberley was diagnosed with lupus.

Grade 10 is usually the year some get their license, their first kiss or even a part- time job, but that was the year Kimberley Manley was diagnosed with lupus. An autoimmune disease that essentially began attacking healthy organs in Kim's body.

"She used to get very sore joints, some mornings she would come out of her room all hunched over," says her father, Dale. Lupus effected Kim's joints, kidneys and central nervous system, which included her brain. She was admitted to Alberta's Children's Hospital in Calgary where she was put on a variety of medications.

However, a bright spot arose August 2013 when the family received a call from Children's Wish, asking what Kim would like to receive.

"I was on the phone with Children's Wish and I said they would love to see this band, Murray Chevrolet is pleased to congratulate the winners of the

Thousand Foot Krutch, so she did a quick Google search and found out they were performing in Disney World in September," says Kim's mom Cindy.

Kim and her brother Jeff were huge fans of the Canadian Christian rock band.

The week the family spent in Disney World was amazing says Kim.

"We stayed at Give Kids the World, which is where all the sick wish kids stay and every child who stays there writes their name on a star and they put it on the ceiling, there are so many stars." Kim said it was sad to see there were so many sick kids, but great to see all the wishes that had been granted.

"We flew out of Medicine Hat, had passes and front of the line access, and even met the band," says Dale.

"I was so nervous I couldn't even talk, I was just shaking," Kim remembers.

Thousand Foot Krutch even gave a shout-out to Kim and Jeff during the show. It was a week the family can't forget.

After the family returned from their trip they discovered that Kim was in remission. She has since graduated from high school and works as a teacher's assistant. Cindy still praises what Donna and Children's Wish did for their family. "Donna was so great. You can tell her heart is in it for these kids." ■
