PROCESS MAP YOUR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR A CLEARER VIEW
Within ISO 9001, the Quality Management Standard, it states in clause 0.2 that the standard “promotes the adoption of a process approach when developing, implementing and improving the management system”. It therefore makes sense
to consider process mapping when developing or improving your management system. It is oſten when processes
are being mapped that it becomes obvious where process failures are as, for example, it becomes clear that no-one has responsibility for carrying out a particular task or, alternatively, more than one person is carrying out the same task. Te optimum approach
is to gather cross-functional groups together to discuss the
objectives of the processes, how they are currently carried out and what the measurements are to prove they are working well. Tese are then drawn up
using the process mapping conventions and then, with the processes documented, the group is brought together again to discuss if it truly meets the objectives originally stated. Te measurement methods
are also analysed to determine whether they are suitable and if there are beter methods of gathering the data and also if the suggested frequency of review of the information is sufficient to monitor the effectiveness of the process. Process mapping is a useful
technique for improving business.
