Great call for liGo as it realises growth ambitions

» Phone vendor expands with new products and pushes into new markets l

iGo’s winning of the Glasgow Business Award 2013 for Best Performing Business (11-50 employees) was in recognition of a remarkable growth story. Founded by Sam Amdjadi in 2003 – the

second business he had set up at the tender age of 23 – liGo is carving out quite a reputation. Te group sells higher-end cordless phones

to both the business and consumer markets and is designing and developing innovative products and bringing them to market. liGo’s innovative solutions have already

atracted major corporate customers, including Telefonica, Siemens, Panasonic and Te Co-op. Te judges were impressed by Glasgow

Caledonian University graduate Amdjadi’s achievements and his ambition to double the size of the business over a two-year period. Turnover was expected to hit £10 million

in 2013 and is projected to hit £14 million this year if the ambitious growth targets are met. Te 2013 programme of growth by liGo,

which Amdjadi co-owns with Marketing Director David Stockhaus, saw investment in new marketing techniques, a city centre office, new websites and new back office systems. liGo has also been expanding its distribution

networks and building its management team as it pushes into new international markets, including Germany and France. While managing his first business, Polaris,

which Mr Amdjadi had done as a student at Glasgow Caledonian University, he spoted the opportunity for a business selling high-quality telephony products. By 2008, liGo had a turnover of £5 million

and began expanding it’s offering beyond just supplying telephony products. Phones they sell can now offer a

touchscreen and can use Skype or make and receive calls on mobile services. One of the markets that liGo has sought to

take a growing slice of is providing kit for the increasing numbers of people who work from home. One such product is the liGo Blue Wave that lets the user make and receive mobile calls from any phone in the house. Amdjadi said that liGo’s website has five

million visitors a month and the company is expanding its customer base as it is expanding

the range of products and services it offers. Te company aims to provide the best value products in the fields in which they operate allied to a high level of service. liGo is seeking to be a bigger player in the

DECT space – DECT being Digital European Cordless Telecommunications, a technology primarily used for creating cordless phone systems, but also used for other purposes, such as baby monitors.

At The Glasgow Business Awards 2013, liGo scured the accolade for Best Performing Business (11-50 employees)

liGo was started without external funding

and is debt free. Last year it applied for and received a £180,000 regional selective assistance grant to develop new products along with backing from Scotish Enterprise’s high growth company programme. liGo has seen remarkable growth over

the 10 years of its existence and it is clearly seeking to match and beter that performance in future.
